SS Rajamouli’s period action drama, starring Ram Charan and NTR Jr, was supposed to release on January 7, but had to be pushed ahead when the pandemic had a resurgence. But with signs of a slow down in the number of cases, the makers are not hopeful of bringing the film to theatres soon
Had it not been for the sudden spike in Covid cases across the country, SS Rajamouli’s much awaited period action drama RRR would have hit theatres on January 7. But that was not to be, with the makers announcing a postponement in keeping with the pandemic situation. The release of several other big-ticket films in other languages that were being planned based on this had to also be pushed ahead, as RRR is expected to hog a lion’s share of the movie halls in major cities.
While the decision to postpone RRR’s release left fans disappointed, there’s now hope on the horizon. Earlier today, the production house, DVV Entertainments, announced that if the Covid situation in India gets better soon enough, they will either release RRR on March 18, or on April 28, provided theatres are operational at 100% capacity then.
Also starring Alia Bhatt, Olivia Morris, Shriya Saran, Rahul Ramakrishna, Samuthirakani and Ajay Devgn in pivotal roles, RRR has Jr NTR and Ram Charan play freedom fighter and revolutionary leader Komaram Bheem and Alluri Seetharamaraju respectively. The film has music by MM Keeravani and is slated to release in five languages.
Earlier, the film was set to clash with other biggies like Radhe Shyam, Bheemla Nayak and Valimai, all of which were pushed ahead, so it would be interesting to see if they will be right back in the race along with RRR, or whether they will choose other release windows, given that they’ve all missed the Sankranti festive season. If RRR chooses to go with April 28, though, it would be barely two weeks after KGF: Chapter 2, which is an April 14 release. Well, either which way, it is good news that the film is coming to theatres soon.
After it's theatrical run, RRR will head to Netflix with its Hindi version and Zee5 for Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam.
