After a wait of almost two years, SS Rajamouli’s RRR finally hit theatres on March 25 and the first reactions from the audience, who caught the midnight and early morning shows, have been flooding in on Twitter. The period film, starring Ram Charan and NTR Jr, is among the most expensive Indian films and the hype for it – on a pan-Indian level – has been off the charts.

Made on a budget exceeding Rs 550 crore, the movie, also starring Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Ray Stevenson and Shriya Saran, revolves around the younger years of the revolutionaries Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem, essayed by Ram Charan and NTR Jr, respectively.

From the initial Twitter reactions, we take a look at what excited and impressed the audience most about Rajamouli’s first directorial since the global phenomenon, Baahubali starring Prabhas and Rana Daggubati.

First 20 minutes

It’s now almost a given that Rajamouli’s opening sequences are something to behold. The Baahubali films established this and judging from the audience reactions on Twitter, the filmmaker takes it up a notch with RRR.

The interval and climax portions

The period film’s length, which is at a staggering 186 minutes, did receive mixed reactions, but it’s definitely better than waiting for two years for the second part like in the case of Baahubali. However, fans were impressed with how the filmmaker ensured that the movie’s pacing reached crescendo at the end of both halves, with a good interval and exciting climax.

Ram Charan’s performance

While the audience say both Ram Charan and NTR Jr put on brilliant performances, it was the latter who had a “show stealing” role, probably because no one saw it coming. His introduction sequence received cheer and the actor sustained the momentum by playing Alluri Sitarama Raja to perfection.

Moving sequences

While some hailed the film as Rajamouli’s new-age Ramayana, the bond between its lead characters and their noble intentions also made for several emotional sequences. The filmmaker also struck a chord with its patriotic sequences.

From the reactions, it's evident that Rajamouli's RRR has enough to keep the theatre audience engaged throughout its three-hour duration with goosebump inducing 'mass' moments from its lead stars as well as emotional scenes that would resonate with most viewers.
