The filmmaker’s RRR, despite not being considered India’s entry to the 95th Academy Awards, is still generating significant Oscar buzz
It was only a matter of time before Baahubali and RRR filmmaker SS Rajamouli would go on to helm a Hollywood film or at least an Indian movie with big US stars. The Telugu filmmaker has now signed up with a leading Hollywood talent agency Creative Artists Agency (CAA).
The agency is known for handling some of high-profile Hollywood celebs including Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Will Smith, Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, Zendaya, Scarlett Johansson, Ryan Murphy, Reese Witherspoon.
The deal will open up more opportunities to the most-sought after filmmaker in India. Since the release of RRR on Netflix, Rajamouli has been praised by the audience as well as celebrities across the world.
The filmmaker is currently promoting his latest movie RRR, starring Ram Charan and NTR Jr, in the US and the movie, despite not being considered by the Film Federation of India’s jury as the country’s entry to the 95th Academy Awards, is generating significant Oscar buzz. The makers are now reportedly planning to submit the movie directly and the US promo tour are part of the efforts to maximise the chances of the film at the upcoming Oscars, which will be held in March 2023.
The film’s campaign team also said that the makers would be vying for a spot in the Best Picture nominees as well as the technical categories including Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu.
In an interview with Mint earlier this year, the actor had talked about his future aspirations after the success of RRR. While a Hollywood movie could definitely be on the cards in the near future, the filmmaker had divulged that his priority is “to tell Indian stories to the rest of the world”.
The filmmaker, who is next set to direct Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu in an action-adventure movie shot across the world, also explained that he is planning to make a movie on the epic Mahabharat.
