Director Lijin Jose’s Chera, which has Nimisha Sajayan and Roshan Mathew in the lead, has gone on floors in Kottayam. The movie, which marks the director’s next project after the acclaimed documentary 8½ Intercuts: Life and Films of KG George, is a suspense mystery.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay Lijin told us about the character the lead duo will be playing in the movie, scripted by Najeem Koya. He said Roshan’s character is affected by polio and hence crawls, and this is also the reason for the title Chera, which means rat snake in Malayalam. Nimisha plays a suspense character in the movie.

The film also has Minnal Murali villain Guru Somasundaram, Tini Tom, Lena, Jaffar Idukki, Jeo Baby and Nisthar Sait. In August, the makers had revealed the title of the film along with a poster resembling Pieta, with Nimisha’s character holding Roshan’s.

Lijin, who had earlier helmed Law Point and Friday, told us that the movie, however, didn’t have any religious connotations and this was just to build up some curiosity.

Meanwhile, Roshan and Nimisha earlier this year had wrapped up the shoot of Sreejith N’s directorial debut Oru Thekkan Thallu Case , which is based on GR Indugopan’s novel. The film, which also has Biju Menon and Padmapriya in the lead, was extensively shot in Thiruvananthapuram.

Roshan is also set for the release of Vysakh’s Night Drive next month. The movie, which is also a thriller, has Anna Ben and Indrajith Sukumaran as part of the cast. The actor also has Alia Bhatt-starrer Darlings set for a direct-to-OTT release on Netflix.

Nimisha, meanwhile, has completed shooting for her Marathi debut film titled Hawahawai, which is set for a theatrical release. She also has Jis Joy’s Innale Vare, co-starring Asif Ali, Antony Varghese and Reba Monica John. The actress’ next release is expected to be Rajeev Ravi’s Thuramukham, which is set to hit theatres in March.
