This year’s biggest Malayalam hit, Romancham, is finally gearing up for its OTT release. The movie, starring Soubin Shahir, Arjun Ashokan, Sajin Gopu, Siju Sunny, Abin Bino, Anantharam Ajay and Chemban Vinod Jose, has stormed the Kerala box office and collected Rs 41 crore, bringing its total worldwide gross to Rs 69 crore. So, it’s no wonder that the team has plans for its sequel too.

The horror-comedy also ends with a hint that the sequel of the film is on its way. The film’s director Jithu, in an earlier interview with OTTplay, also confirmed this, adding that the movie’s “incomplete ending” was deliberate.

“We have an ending (for the sequel) in mind but we will only go ahead with it if we can make the script as good as Romancham. Only once we are assured of it, we will go ahead with the sequel. We want to come up with a great script and be confident about the movie that we are making,” said the director, adding that the makers don’t want to do another film just for the sake of it.

The success of the movie, however, has helped the entire team, considering that their confidence had hit “rock-bottom” after Romancham’s release was pushed from its initial date last year. Jithu said that they were confident about the movie till then but were clueless about the audience’s reaction to the film after the date got pushed.

“I watched the first show with my crew, so I wasn’t sure about the response of the rest of the audience. It wasn’t until I got in for the evening show that the feedback sunk in,” he said.

Romancham also marked the debut production of Guppy and Ambili director John Paul George. Meanwhile, Jithu is currently busy with another comedy set in Bengaluru and has Fahadh Faasil in the lead. The film is produced by Anwar Rasheed.
