In a chat with Komal Nahta, Imtiaz Ali shared his thoughts on sequels. When asked about Jab We Met 2, he admitted that nothing is planned or fixed, and one never knows what ideas might emerge. While confirming that he currently has no plans, he added, "Kabhi aesa hota hai ke koi wild thought Rockstar ko leke aa jae." (It might happen that a wild thought about Rockstar comes to my mind.) This statement keeps the door open for a potential sequel, fueling hope and excitement among fans.

In the same conversation, Imtiaz Ali reflected on Love Aaj Kal (2020), the sequel to his 2008 hit. He admitted that the film lost its simplicity, making it difficult for audiences to connect with. He explained, "The ease of the film was compromised, and it became too thick. People didn't fully understand it, and it lacked freshness." He further emphasized that sequels should have a strong reason to exist. Though he had his reasons for making Love Aaj Kal 2, he acknowledged that the film's publicity failed to communicate them effectively to the audience.
