Written, directed, and starring Madhavan, the movie is based on the life of former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan.
Madhavan’s Rocketry: The Nambi Effect hit theatres yesterday, marking the actor’s directorial debut. The movie, which is based on the life of former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan, has had a rather slow start to life at the box office.
According to a report by Box Office India, the biopic has managed to earn around Rs. 75 lakh nett on its opening day in the country. While the movie saw a clash with Aditya Roy Kapur’s Rashtra Kavach Om, the actioner has also had a poor opening day in the country.
Apart from the clash, Rocketry was also released only on limited screens across India, that too in metro cities. The film is multilingual, with versions in Tamil, Hindi, and English, as well as Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada.
The movie’s makers could still have hope of earning more, as trade analyst Ramesh Bala states that the movie is seeing good advance bookings. "@ActorMadhavan’s #Rocketry has opened with best reviews and WOM... Multiplexes adv booking looks good for this weekend, "wrote Bala on Twitter.
The Nambi Effect: A film about the life of Nambi Narayanan, the former ISRO scientist who was accused of espionage. After a long legal battle, he was later exonerated by the court. The movie follows his life from his early days at Princeton University to his days of being seen as a traitor by the nation.
"The film succeeds in showcasing the struggles faced by Nambi Narayanan to a decent extent. The movie could have worked wonders had the technical aspects and screenplay been tightened," read the movie’s review on OTTplay.
While Madhavan essays the role of Narayanan, the movie also features Simran, Misha Ghoshal, Rajit Kapur, and Karthik Kumar in important roles. Rocketry also features Shah Rukh Khan and Suriya in cameo roles in the Hindi and Tamil versions, respectively.
