Padmakumar, who helmed the original version, has directed Visithiran,
A still from the film
It was announced a few days ago that Visithiran, the official remake of Mollywood movie Joseph (streaming on Amazon Prime Video), will release in theatres on May 19. However, the makers have now come up with a new date. The team has postponed its release by a day; the movie will hit the screens on May 20.
Malayalam filmmaker Padmakumar, who directed the original version, has wielded megaphone for the Tamil version, too. Acclaimed director Bala has produced the film which has music composed by GV Prakash. It was in 2019 that the makers announced their plans to remake the critically and commercially successful Malayalam movie which has Joju George playing the lead.
Producer-turned-actor RK Suresh plays the lead role in the remake; he will be appearing in two looks in the movie and had shed a few kilos for the same. Dileesh Pothan, Athmiya Rajan and Madhuri Braganza among others played pivotal characters in Malayalam.
The Tamil version has Poorna, Madhu Shalini, Bagavathi Perumal, Ilavarasu and George Maryan in crucial roles. Actor Anil Murali will reprise his character from the original version. Earlier, the makers of Visithiran had plans to release it in theatres in November, but they postponed it owing to reasons known to them.
Suriya had unveiled the teaser of the movie earlier this year. Vetri Mahendran has cranked the camera for Visithiran which has editing by Sathish Suriya and art direction by Mayapandi. Initially, the team had plans to retain the same title for the Tamil version and was about to register it.
But later, they thought a fresh title would be apt, as they have made a few changes. According to them, the changes are minimal and have nothing to do with the core theme of the movie.
