Rudhra Garuda Purana is Rishi’s second outing as a police officer, after Kavaludaari. The film will be in theatres on January 24
Rudhra Garuda Purana, a crime thriller directed by KS Nandeesh, has leading man Rishi in cop mode yet again. This time, though, unlike Kavaludaari, he isn’t taking initiative to crack a case himself, but is entrusted with the responsibility of solving a missing person’s case that was seeing no progress whatsoever.
Rishi on Rudhra Garuda Purana: The mystery of the bus 17A Kaveri will evoke a lot of questions
Rishi is Rudhra, the officer tasked with finding an MLA’s missing son, Manu, and while the investigation leads him down some dark and dangerous paths, Rudhra Garuda Purana is not just about the case. It also has a lighter side to it, following Rudhra’s personal life.
Did the actor seek inspiration from other prominent cop portrayals in Kannada cinema by mainstream heroes? Rishi says that his goal was to understand what is required to present his character effectively. Given that there are umpteen popular cop characters that audiences have seen over the years, the actor says that there are certain expectations of such a portrayal – flamboyant and machismo.
“But when I met several real-life officers, the impression is that they are like any other person, grounded and real. On account of their profession, sometimes, the tone in which they speak may come across a tad loud and rough. And yet, 5 minutes later, if they were to have a normal conversation, they’d be soft-spoken and polite,” says the actor.
Therefore, Rishi added, the emphasis was to present a different perspective of a cop in films. “In Kavaludaari, we showed one shade and Rudhra Garuda Purana is another approach. We’ve taken inspiration from real-life police officers for Rudhra,” he stated.
The film, which is releasing on January 24, has been inspired by the mystery of the Pan Am Flight 814, which took off and disappeared, only to reappear a good three decades later. Nandeesh has used the concept for a public transport bus service, with the 17A Kaveri route a vital element of the story.
