Streaming giant Netflix on Monday dropped the first look for Ripley's main protagonist, Andrew Scott, along with the official teaser for the upcoming crime series. Based on Patricia Highsmith’s best-selling novel titled ‘Tom Ripley,’ the latest series is a fascinating tale of crime, fraud, and identity theft.

Plot and Cast
The upcoming 8-episode limited series is led by Flea Bag’s charismatic priest, Andrew Scott, who plays the titular character of Tom Ripley. In Patricia Highsmith’s novel adaptation, the plot follows a swindler in the backdrop of the New York 1960s who meets an affluent businessman making amends with his ‘vagabond’ son. The worried father makes a deal with the witty conman to bring his bratty son from Italy to return home. Following a short friendship with the influential son, the story twists into deceit, identity theft, and a criminal investigation.

Apart from Scott, Johnny Flynn plays the key role of Dickie Greenleaf, a spoiled brat whose life takes a sinister turn due to Ripley’s schemes. The series also stars Dakota Fanning in the role of Marge Sherwood, who is Dickie’s girlfriend.
The black-and-white 1-minute teaser introduces us to the charming yet scheming Tom Ripley, along with other prominent characters. Notably, this is not the only time when Patricia Highsmith’s best-selling novel is being adapted into a thriller series earlier in 1999, a film titled ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley,’ starring Matt Damon as Tom Ripley, became a highly lauded film project. It was also nominated for multiple Academy Awards for its craft.
It would be fascinating to witness if the charm and magic of the 1999 film will be recreated through Netflix’s limited series or if it will be left in the dust.
Written and directed by The Irishman famed writer Steven Zaillian, there is a team of multiple executive producers who collaborated on Netflix’s crime series project, including Zaillian, Garrett Basch, Ben Forkner, Clayton Townsend, Guymon Casady, Sharon Levy, and Philipp Keel of Diogenes.
