The cast of Friends is saddened by the loss of one of their own. His Friends co-stars—Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer—issued a joint statement two days after Matthew Perry's death, which People acquired.

Friends stars take time to process the loss

The statement said that the loss of Matthew has crushed all of them. As actors, they were more than just co-stars; they were a family. They added that there is so much to say, but right now they are going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. The statement continued that, in time, they will say more, as and when they are able. For now, their thoughts and their love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loves him around the world. After that, Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc, and Schwimmer all put their names on the note.

Perry played Friends' witty wingman-turned-leading man Chandler Bing for 10 years, and his flawless comedic portrayal earned him an Emmy nod in 2002.

Friends creators mourn the loss of a close friend

On Sunday, co-creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane issued a statement alongside executive producer Kevin Bright. They stated that their close friend Matthew had died and they were devastated to learn the news. They have no words to express how fortunate they feel to have known him, and the man had incredible skills.

They said of Perry's breakthrough performance that it's cliche to say that an actor makes a part their own, but in Matthew's case, there are no truer words. They knew he was the one to play Chandler Bing the moment they heard him read the script. Kaufman, Crane, and Bright concluded their statement by saying that they will always treasure the joy, the light, and the blazing intelligence he brought to every moment—not just in his work but in his life. They also went on to say that the actor could make anyone laugh whenever he entered a room, and on top of all that, he had the kindest, most kind nature.

In addition to expressing sorrow for Perry's family and friends, the statement also included a touching allusion to the Friends title tradition. Our hearts go out to him and his loved ones. In a very real sense, this is "The One Where Our Hearts Are Broken."
