May 27, 2021

Japanese-British singer, songwriter and model Rina Sawayama is officially set to make her feature film debut as an actor with the next instalment of the popular John Wick franchise as per reports by Deadline.

The pop star will be sharing the screen with Keanu Reeves who plays the titular character in the movie. Although the details of the character that the singer will be playing are under wraps as of now, director Chad Stahelski expressed his excitement about having Sawayama join the cast. "I'm so glad to have Rina on board to make her feature film debut in John Wick: Chapter 4. She’s an incredible talent who’ll bring so much to the film", he said in a statement.

Sawayama had previously worked in the Netflix series Turn Up Charlie. She also released her self-titled debut album last year, which received widespread critical acclaim from both sides of the Atlantic for its pop and R&B sound.

With little to know about the upcoming instalment of John Wick, the film was originally planned to have a May 21 release this year, but due to Reeves' prior commitment to The Matrix 4, the film was postponed. John Wick: Chapter 4 is currently scheduled for a May 27, 2022 release. In addition, there are also plans of John Wick: Chapter 5 while it's still unclear when we can expect from it. There are also plans for a prequel series The Continental, revolving around the hotel that acts as a safe zone for assassins.

While writer and John Wick creator Derek Kolstad has penned down all previous three movies in the John Wick franchise, John Wick: Chapter 4 comes from Michael Finch, who has previously worked on the screenplays for Predators, Hitman: Agent 47 and American Assassin.
