On June 16, Ricky received the official United Nations Goodwill Ambassador plaque from His Excellency Csaba Kőrösi, the President of the United Nations General Assembly, at the UN Headquarters in New York.
The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) launched the #HerLand campaign in the General Assembly to mobilise support to advance gender equality and land rights for girls and women around the world.
Ricky performed his brand-new song ‘Her Land’ live to support this campaign along with Senegalese legend Baaba Maal, Malian superstar Inna Modja, Grammy® winner Lonnie Park, and Keith Middleton. The song will be available to stream online soon.
Speaking after receiving the honour, Ricky said, "I will continue to give my all to the various causes I strongly believe in and work towards long-lasting change that benefits many generations to come through my music."
While in the US, Ricky also performed at the historic Gotham Hall in New York for the American India Foundation Gala last week.
There, he managed to raise a whopping $3.1 million to support their recently launched S.N.E.H (Skilling, Nutrition, Education, and Health) to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 in education, livelihoods, and public Health.
He also caught up with music academics and students in New York, Washington DC, and Philadelphia for the Global Think Tank sessions. "I also met my friends there. Their valuable inputs will truly make the upcoming Performing Arts School at Chanakya University in India world-class," said Ricky about the sessions.
Another highlight of his American trip was being invited by the White House to honour the arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his first US state visit and to celebrate the friendship between the two countries.
And that wasn't it. The Grammy winner also spent some time with actor Richard Gere during the International Yoga Day celebrations at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. They spoke about the work that the actor is doing for the Tibetan refugees and his support for ecological causes. In the candid conversation, Ricky told Richard that his dog was named after his movie, Hachi.
