Rakshit Shetty has been talking about his return to direction with Richard Anthony, the prequel and sequel to his directorial debut Ulidavaru Kandanthe for a couple of years now. The film is to be produced by KGF and Salaar makers Hombale Films and is Rakshit’s nex t after Sapta Sagaradaache Ello, the second part of which is currently in theatres. The actor-filmmaker has been working on the script of the film for a while and had taken off to the US in April this year, shortly after the state elections to work on the final draft. Once back, he got busy with the promotions of Sapta Sagaradaache Ello, but assured his fans that as soon as he’s done with the Hemanth M Rao’s film’s release, he would throw himself headlong into Richard Anthony.

When OTTPlay had asked Rakshit about the timeline he was looking at for the film, he had told us that he was targeting a 2025 release, with around a year and a half spent on production. But then, in a recent interview the actor-filmmaker admitted that he’s yet to lock the final script of the film and that he was looking at taking off somewhere to a secluded place at least for a month to write this draft. Rakshit is hopeful of completing this by the new year and going on floors in, say, March or April, which means the film will likely be an end of 2025 release. This, of course, depends on the actor-filmmaker getting the script in place soon.

Since the film delves into his Ulidavaru Kandanthe character Richie before and after the events of the earlier film, Rakshit added that he was looking at having most of the cast from the original on board, and then add some new characters too. Those who liked Ulidavaru Kandanthe, will love Richard Anthony, he reckons, adding that those who are looking for commercial aspects will also be satisfied. Richard Anthony, he states, will be a commercial film, but in Rakshit Shetty’s style of filmmaking, while remaining true to the spirit of Ulidavaru Kandanthe.
