RG Kar Incident: Mimi Chakraborty gets online threats, files a complaint
Kolkata, along with the whole country, has been witnessing uproar over the heinous rape and murder of a doctor on duty at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Amid this unrest, actress Mimi Chakraborty received threats online. The actress took the matter to the police.
Mamata Banerjee announced giving ten lakhs to the RG Kar victim’s family. While talking about the sum, some people used a rape rhetoric on Mimi Chakraborty’s post. The comment was: ‘If the same happened with Mimi, what would be done? Would her family get ten lakhs? Then send her to my room and I will pay her family the amount.’
Mimi shared the comment’s screenshot and wrote ‘Are we fighting for this? We seek justice for a woman, right? Rape threats have become common nowadays. These people then mix in the crowd and say that they are by the side of women. What education is this?’
Mimi then said that she complained to the Cyber Crime Department and talked to the branch’s head. She told Anandabazar Online ‘Nowadays, rape rhetoric is the language of attacking a woman. Rape threats are used frequently. I will see the end of it.’
Srijit Mukherji shared Mimi’s post screenshot on his X on Tuesday and replied to the rape threat. He said ‘Hate the stars, but prudently. You might not get the internet in prison.’
Mimi has been vocal about the RG Kar incident. She went to the street seeking justice and shared several posts on social media.
Mimi withdrew from politics before the 2024 Parliamentary Election. She made it clear that politics was no longer her cup of tea. Sayoni replaced her as the TMC candidate from Jadavpur. Since then, Mimi has not been seen in any political gatherings and has not made any political comment. Her role in seeking justice for the RG Kar incident was completely apolitical.
