Every year, Ranjit Mallick, Koel Mallick, and other members of the family open the house for common people during Durga Puja. People go there all through the five days to soak in the spirit of their family Puja. However, this year it is going to be different. Mallick family said that the door will be shut for common people this Puja.

Ranjit Mallick, in an interview, said, “Our Puja turned a hundred years old. Durga Puja never stopped in our house. There were family problems and even death. But Puja happened. But this year we are going through a peculiar situation and time. No one could forget the heart-wrenching incident at RG Kar Hospital. We felt the same. The Puja vibe is bland this year. But Puja will happen. The preparations are going on. But every year, the thakurdalan of the family is kept open for people during Puja. We can’t do the same this year. Hence people might face problems seeing the Puja of the Mallick family. But we are also disturbed by the present situation. Also, our Puja turned a hundred this year. Hence many of our relatives are coming. Many people will stay at our place. Hence the door will not be kept open for common people. We apologize to all.”

Earlier in August, an on-duty junior doctor was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. People from different walks of life took to the streets to demand justice.

Ranjit Mallick further added, “My sole prayer to the Goddess is to keep everyone happy and let good sense prevail. I have nothing more to ask for.”

The Puja vibe is on. The city is getting decorated. After relentless rain, now is the time of autumn. But fans are saddened at the news of the Puja at the Mallick’s house.
