It was exactly on 28 October in the year 2004, when the Indian television saw a ‘revolution’ of sorts in the form of ‘Indian Idol’, a singing reality show. Even though there was ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ which was still running, the entry of ‘Indian Idol’ kind of disr upted not just the music industry, but also the reality shows based on singing. The first season saw the presence of a spectacular set which was truly enticing enough for the aspiring singers who dreamt of making it big on the music scene. Added to the sets, there were a panel of celebrity judges and two lively hosts. Speaking of two lively hosts, they were none other than Aman Varma and Mini Mathur. These two continued to host the second season of the show as well. The following seasons of the show saw the mix and match of hosts as well as celebrity judges.

While we are on the topic of the hosts, the inimitable Mini Mathur left the show after hosting for as many as six seasons of the show. Her very presence doubled up with her magnetic smile and a pleasing personality truly gave the audiences reasons to look forward to the show. But, after being an integral part of the show ‘Indian Idol’ for as many as six years, Mini Mathur bid adieu to the show thus leaving many fans upset. To top it all, there was no reason assigned for her departure from the show as the host. In a recent interview with Cyrus Broacha, Mini Mauthur revealed the reason behind her leaving the ‘Indian Idol’ show after sis seasons. She said that she had built real and strong connections with everyone involved in the show, including the contestants. She recalled how she wouldn’t stop smiling after the cameras stopped rolling.

While revealing the reason behind her quitting the show, Mini Mathur said, “I called it quits only when I realized that now, there is no longer a real reality. I did six seasons. After that, it was just a question of making money, but by then, the husband had started making money… But I really didn’t appreciate that reality had become constructed”. What she was also baffled by was when the makers had reportedly asked her to create ‘moments’ like ‘create a moment between Dharmendra and Hema Malini’. To which, Mini Mathur told Cyrus, “This is not something I am going to do, and of course, it wasn’t just Idol, I did a lot of stuff after that. And it all had the same chhaapa.”
On the professional front, Mini Mathur was last seen in ‘Mind the Malhotras’ Cyrus Sahukar, which was streamed on Amazon Prime. Mini Mathur had also acted in the film ‘I, Me Aur Main’ along with John Abraham, Prachi Desai and Chitrangda Singh.
