Acclaimed filmmaker Pa Ranjith is gearing up for the release of his forthcoming project Natchathiram Nagargiradhu. The film, starring Kalidas Jayaram, Dushara Vijayan and Kalaiyarasan in lead roles, will release in theatres on August 31. This is the director's first theatrical release in the pandemic era.
His last outing, Sarpatta Parambarai which was released a year ago, had a direct release on Amazon Prime Video. Rajinikanth-starrer Kaala was Ranjith's last release in theatres. Going by the promo videos, Natchathiram Nagargiradhu is different from the filmmaker's previous works in every way.
Like most of his movies, this one, too, touches upon unexplored politics that exists among human relationships. The movie is essentially a romantic drama that revolves around a few youngsters who work in a theatre group. How their friendships and love relationships reflect divisive politics that is rampant in society forms the movie's plot.
A source has now revealed the film's duration. The first half of the movie is around 91 minutes while the latter half has 79 minutes, making it a total of 2 hours 50 minutes duration. A few of his previous works, too, had a similar run time.
Natchathiram Nagargiradhu also touches upon complexities involved in LGBTQIA relationships and how the community feels oppressed owing to various reasons. Tenma's music is expected to be one of the highlights of the film. This is also the first project of Ranjith in which he has opted for a different composer. Santhosh Narayanan has been the regular music director for his movies.
Selva RK and Kishor Kumar have handled editing and cinematography respectively for the movie which has art direction helmed by L Jayaragu and action choreography composed by Stunner Ram.
