Asif Ali, Anaswara Rajan play the lead roles in Rekhachithram
Asif Ali, who registered his first Rs 50-crore movie with Kishkindha Kaandam last year, has repeated the success with Rekhachithram too. Jofin T Chacko’s film, which also stars Anaswara Rajan in a key role, has hit the Rs 50-crore mark in the global box office, according to the makers. With this, the thriller film earned the first blockbuster tag from Malayalam in 2025.
Rekhachithram, which released in theatres on January 9, 2025, has entered the Rs 50-crore club within 13 days at the box office. The film’s leading man Asif Ali took to Instagram to share the exciting update and wrote, “Rekhachithram touches the magical figure of 50 crores at the global box office. This is everything we dreamed of and more.”
The film has been able to earn four times its modest budget within two weeks, emerging to be another hit in Asif Ali's career. The actor’s Kishkindha Kaandam with Aparna Balamurali and Vijayaraghavan had grossed Rs 76.9 crore in total worldwide box office collection, according to Sacnilk.
Rekhachithram also benefited as it hardly faced any competition from other Malayalam film releases in 2025. Tovino Thomas Identity, which started on a good note, raked in around Rs 16.5 crore. Pravinkoodu Shaapu, starring Basil Joseph and Soubin Shahir, is also in theatres but made around Rs 5 crore as it is set to complete one week at the box office.
However, the box office game is likely to change starting tomorrow as Mammootty’s Dominic and the Ladies' Purse hits the theatres. The film is set to release on January 23, 2025, and there is a lot of expectation surrounding the film, which marks the Malayalam directorial debut of Gautham Vasudev Menon
Jofin T Chacko has directed Rekhachithram, after his film The Priest, starring Mammootty in the lead role. Asif Ali plays CI Vivek Gopinath in Rekhachithram, while Anaswara Rajan is seen as the young Rekha, who goes missing from a film set in 1985.
Manoj K Jayan also plays a key role in the film along with Siddique, Jagadish, Sai Kumar, Zarin Shihab, Harisree Ashokan and Indrans.
