Sunainaa in Regina
Domin D Silva, who has directed Malayalam films Paippin Chuvattile Pranayam and Star, is making his Tamil debut with Regina, which has Sunainaa playing the lead role in it. The project was announced more than a year ago; Venkat Prabhu unveiled its first look poster, which featured the actress in a never-before-seen avatar in it.
Produced by Sathish Nair of Yellow Bear Productions, he himself has composed music, too, for the film. Billed as a revenge drama, the movie evoked good response among cinephiles after makers released a few of its posters.
Release Date
Regina has hit screens today in Tamil Nadu and a few other territories. The makers officially announced its release date as June 23 after its audio and trailer launch which was held in Chennai a few weeks ago. The project was issued an U/A certificate a couple of days ago and bookings commenced the other day across the state.
Trailer
The film's trailer, which was released two weeks ago, provided a glimpse into the movie's story, though makers had ensured not to give away too many details about its characters and major sequences. The two-minute promo video set the right expectations for viewers, helping them understand about its genre.
Plot
The movie revolves around a young woman who has pinned high hopes on her future. Her husband is the apple of her eye and she is expecting a baby from him, but fate had some other plans for them. She unexpectedly loses her husband in a bank robbery. After dealing with mental trauma and loneliness, she sets out to take revenge on the people who indulged in the bank heist.
Cast
Ananth Nag plays Sunainaa's husband in the film while Bava Chelladurai essays the role of a revolutionist. Gajaraj, Rithu Manthra, Dhina, Vivek Prasanna and Appani Sharath are others who play notable roles in the movie. The crew consists of Pavi K Pavan who cranked the camera and Toby John in charge of editing.
Budget
Though makers haven't revealed the budget, Regina, we hear, has been made in a small budget. At the audio launch, producer Sathish Nair revealed that no compromise was made by the team and that they are quite confident with the output.
Behind-the-scenes
A month ago, there was news that Sunainaa was kidnapped. Later, the team revealed that it was part of a promotional strategy. The actress and director Domin also appeared in a video where the two of them were seen accusing each other over their commitment towards work. The publicity stunt had elevated viewers' expectations on the project. Sunainaa turned emotional and broke down while delivering a speech at one of the promotional events of the film and said that she has put her heart and soul into the movie.
OTT platform
The makers are yet to announce the digital platform which has acquired the OTT rights of Regina. They are expected to make an announcement in a few weeks and the movie is likely to start streaming on a leading platform after a month.
