Actor-composer GV Prakash Kumar is currently awaiting the release of his period political drama film Rebel. With the film releasing on March 22, GV Prakash opened up about the film, the politics surrounding it, and how there might be a prequel if the film finds success.

GV Prakash Kumar on Rebel

In a recent conversation with Cinema Viketan, GV Prakash said, "Rebel is a period drama but even in its non-linear screenplay, the story goes back to the past and does not come to the present. If Rebel becomes a hit, we can do a prequel." He also added, "I have been asked this many times that I voice out for political issues and even attended jallikattu protest, but why don't I do political films. In that sense, Rebel will be an important film in my career. It has a strong political voice and that of Tamil. That is how I came in.”

The composer, who is also scoring for Rebel, said that the music will also echo the political voice of Rebel. GV Prakash has scored the music along with Ofro and Siddhu Kumar.

All about Rebel

Ahead of the film's release on March 22, the makers of Rebel released the trailer of the film. The film, which is said to be based on true events, is set in a college in Munnar. Rebel will also feature actor Mamitha Baiju, who recently appeared in the hit Malayalam film Premalu, as the female lead.

The trailer reveals how there is discrimination faced by Tamil students in the college which also has a significant population of Malayali students. While Mamitha plays a Malayali student who is kind towards Tamils, the trailer also shows a conflict rising between the two groups with GV Prakash at the centre of it.

Rebel is written and directed by debutant Nikesh RS. The film has been shot by Arun Radhakrishnan with GV Prakash also scoring the music. Vetre Krishnan has edited the film.
