The film, which was censored in June 2020, will head to theatres in April.
When it was launched in 2018, the Kannada film Home Minister, starring Real Star Upendra in the lead, was highly anticipated, given that fans thought it would be a political film, despite the makers’ repeated claims to the contrary. The film, directed by Sujay K Srihari and produced by Poornachandra Naidu and Srikanthu under Srreyas Chitra and Watercolor Entertainment, pairs Upendra with Vedhika, while Tanya Hope, Lasya Nagaraj and Shubha Raksha are also a part of it. The team has been tight-lipped about the subject of the film, stating only that it is a family entertainer and not a Kannada remake of a Telugu film as had been reported earlier. At an earlier press meet, Upendra had said that the title could denote someone who runs the home as well.
Although Home Minister was completed in 2018, the film was subsequently delayed, with the team finally getting it censored in June 2020. Now, almost two years later, they are finally ready to bring it to theatres. Earlier today, the team of Home Minister got together for a press briefing during which it was announced that the film would be released on April 1. Also on the cast of Home Minister are Srinivasa Murthy, Avinash, Malavika Avinash, Sadhu Kokila, Tilak, Abhimanyu Singh, Vijay Chendoor, Chidanand and Baby Aadya. The film will mark music director Mohannad Ghibran Kannada film debut.
Meanwhile, while Upendra gears up for the release of Home Minister, the buzz is that the actor-filmmaker is also set to start work on his next directorial. Earlier this year, he had launched an audition for actors aged between 14 and 60 years, both men and women, for his latest film, with the last date for submission being next week, on March 10. This, incidentally, will be Upendra’s home production and marks his return to the director’s chair since the 2015 Uppi 2.
