This is the first time that Rashmika is teaming up with Vijay for a film. Thalapathy66, directed by Vamsi Paidipally, has an ensemble star cast that includes Shaam, Yogi Babu, Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Sangeetha, Srikanth and Samyuktha to name a few. Music for the film is by Thaman. Cinematography is by Kharthik Phalani and editing is by Praveen KL Prabhu. The film is expected to hit screens next year for Pongal. Thalapathy66 is Vamsi's second film in Tamil after Thozha which had Nagarjuna, Karthi and Tamanaah in the lead.
Rashmika had made her Tamil debut last year with Karthi's Sulthan, which was directed by Bakkiyaraj Kannan. The film turned out to be a dampener at the box office.
