Ranveer Singh: Jayeshbhai Jordaar presented me with an opportunity to play a character with no reference point

Ranveer Singh has played characters that are vastly different from one another, from the fast-talking wedding planner in Band Baaja Baaraat (2010) to the ominous Alauddin Khilji in Padmaavat (2018) and the rapper in Gully Boy (2019). Another name to add to the list is Jayeshbhai Jordaar. Apart from the fascinating narrative, the actor revealed that he was drawn to filmmaker Divyang Thakkar's social comedy by the thrill of converting into a small-time Gujarati merchant.

Ahead of the film's premiere, Singh thinks that the audience will be astonished by his character, which he claims represents a new kind of heroism. He told Mid Day that Jayeshbhai Jordaar allowed him to play a character with no precedent. The best part about being an actor for him is that he gets to live so many different lives since each character he plays is so unique. People assumed Singh was a Delhi-born and raised boy when they saw Band Baaja Baaraat. In his 11-year career, this has happened numerous times. That is the highest praise the actor has ever received since he enjoyed convincing people that he could morph into anyone.

The actor acknowledges that he chooses his projects carefully to avoid being typecast. Singh is incredibly inspired by the world's shape-shifting actors, particularly Daniel Day-Lewis. As a result, he eagerly anticipates each film's metamorphosis from his first movie until his most recent release, 83 (2021), in which he played the renowned Kapil Dev.

Ratna Pathak Shah, Boman Irani, and Shalini Pandey also feature in supporting roles. The film is slated for release on May 13, 2022.

Apart from Jayeshbhai Jordaar Singh will also be seen in Karan Johar's upcoming directorial, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, opposite Alia Bhatt. The film is set for a 2023 release.
