Karan Johar is back in action with the much-awaited seventh season of Koffee with Karan. The new installment of the show was kicked off on the 7th of July with Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt gracing the esteemed (and infamous) sofa and presenting their candid selves. Many would also know that the trio is currently collaborating on a film titled Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani with Johar donning the director’s hat after six years for a full-fledged feature, and Ranveer and Alia playing his two leads.

Interestingly, Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt seem to be his current go-to set of lead actors as Karan Johar names them as his picks for another possible collaboration. In a recent interview with the Times of India, the filmmaker was asked to choose an entirely new cast for a potential remake of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai if he were to retell the story in 2022. “Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, and Jahnvi Kapoor,” was his response, stating that the Alia would play Kajol’s role in the new version with Jahnvi recreating Rani Mukerji’s oomph and allure on the screen. Ranveer Singh, for obvious reasons, will play Shah Rukh Khan’s Rahul, should there be a remake on the cards in the future.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai marked Karan Johar’s directorial debut in 1998 with the film going to redefine commercial entertainment for Hindi cinema. The film has acquired a cult status over the years with each new generation taking to it in its own ways – Kuch Kuch Hota Hai starred Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji with Salman Khan playing a special role in the film.

Koffee With Karan 7 host Karan Johar finally addresses harsh trolling: Faceless, nameless people said annoying things on television

On the other hand, Karan Johar stated in a recent interview with the Film Companion that he wishes to direct as many films as possible in the coming years. He is slated to direct a thorough action movie once he wraps Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.
