Rannvijay Singha stated in a recent interview that he was given nothing to do on the show, Shark Tank India.
Actor-host Rannvijay Singha, who garnered attention for presenting Shark Tank India's first season, one of the most anticipated shows of last year, has stepped down from the role in season 2 which is currently airing. The 39-year-old reveals that while he enjoyed his time on the show, there was only so much he could contribute before he made the decision to leave. Rannvijay stated in a recent interview with Hindustan Times that he was only given nothing to do on the show.
He said, “I loved the concept of the show where young entrepreneurs talking only about business and the psychology around the sharks and why somebody would invest in them. But eventually, as a host, I did not have much to do. By the time the edits were done, we all realised that there was no way to push more of Rannvijay on the show.”
Rannvijay, who has been replaced by comedian Rahul Dua for season 2 added, “Even during the edits of the first season, they were like there is no space [to accommodate your portions]. It was more of a mutual decision. Now, the production does not just do one show. There will be more things happening.”
Singha goes on to say that participants on the show weren't at all camera-shy, contrary to what he and the producers had believed, and that's another reason the host didn't receive as much room. He confesses that in Shark Tank India, he ended up doing things as a presenter that were less enjoyable, citing instances of his prior series like Roadies and Splitsvilla, where he was a significant contribution even as a host.
He claimed that for almost 20 years, MTV reality shows were synonymous with him. He claimed that because of how closely he was tied to the channel, other jobs would pass him over because they assumed he would never want to leave.
The second season of Shark Tank India premiered last week.
