This year marked the tenth anniversary of Anjan Dutt’s musical Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbona. However, it also marks the decade-long journey of Bengali actress Parno Mittra who made her debut with this film. Parno became a household name after Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbona and has grown in leaps and bounds since then, playing a number of headstrong characters.

Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbona was lauded by critics for its realistic script and received multiple awards, including three National Film awards for Best Direction (Jury) by Anjan Dutt, Best Music Direction by Neel Dutt and Best Feature Film.

A musical tale of lost love and achieved dreams, the movie revolves around the titular character Ranjana, a small-town girl from Siliguri, who dreams of making it big in the music industry. To achieve this goal, she seeks the mentorship of Anjan, who only desires to seduce her. Portraying the role of Ranjana is Parno, with the story chronicling her journey and how she becomes a successful artiste.

In a chat with ETimes, Parno got nostalgic while remembering her debut film. For her, it was a career milestone, as it launched her into the industry as an actor, and she is grateful to have received that opportunity. Although it has been 10 years since the release of the film, people still associate her with Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbona, which she believes is a big deal for any actor. Often called by her screen name Ranjana, she narrated how when she goes for shows, a bunch of boys will start singing the iconic song, proving that even the next generation loves the film.

She also revealed how the movie changed her career graph, improving her as she tried out different roles and character shades. “Post-Ranjana... I knew I had a lot of responsibilities. I finally got what I wanted. I have grown as an actor with every film,” said the actress.

Parno would be seen next in Raj Chakraborty’s Dharmajuddha, alongside stalwarts like Swatilekha Sengupta, Soham Chakraborty, Ritwick Chakraborty and Subhashree Ganguly. A political drama, the movie would chronicle the story of five central characters as they get entangled in a communal riot in the village of Ismailpur.
