Mrs Norway vs Chatterjee actress Rani Mukerji talks about the audiences’ reaction to contemporary actors and how she was tricked into becoming an actress by her mother
Rani Mukerji
Rani Mukerji is one of the leading ladies of Bollywood. The actress made her Bollywood debut with Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat at the age of 17 and became successful after the release of Karan Johar’s 1998 film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The actress in a recent interview has expressed her opinion saying that her generation and the one before that were more hardworking as they knew they would not get a second chance.
During a recent interview with Film Companion, Rani was asked about the challenges of lip syncing to which the actress replied, “There is no challenge. I think actors of my generation or actors before my generation, we were not given choices, we were not spoilt. We have no choice but to do well. We have no other option. We have to give it our best, we have to work hard. There was no option of getting a second chance. Our fans forgave us a lot at that time," Rani said. Talking about the challenges she faced at the time, Rani said, “Now I know why fans are so unforgiving because they are like sab kuch hai toh abhi karo na hardwork (There is everything available now, work hard then). That time they knew we were working so hard, so they forgave us.”
Why did Rani Mukerji’s mother want her to become an actress?
In the same interview she revealed about her experiences of becoming an actress, telling how her mother tricked her into becoming a part of the industry. She said that her mother, Krishna Mukherjee wanted her to become an actress, not because she thought Rani was pretty but because she thought that she could be the breadwinner of the family.
She said that her mother thought that she should give it a shot because the situation of the family demanded her to be the breadwinner. “So, the decision was laced with a lot of other factors and not just because, ‘My daughter is beautiful, let’s make her an actor’. I think it was not that,” Rani said.
She also revealed how her mother tricked her into doing one film and gave her the option of leaving the industry after doing that. She told me, ‘Try this one film. See if you are interested and if you don’t like it, you can go back to your life,” Rani shared.
Rani tied the knot with her husband Aditya Chopra in 2014 and welcomed daughter Adira in 2015. She was last seen in Aashima Chibber’s Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway.
