Randeep Hooda reunites with Extraction director Sam Hargrave for Matchbox

Randeep Hooda reunites with Extraction director Sam Hargrave for Apple’s action thriller Matchbox joining John Cena, Jessica Biel, and Teyonah Parris. The film is based on Mattel’s toy line.

Matchbox an anticipated action thriller from Apple Original Films, will be directed by Sam Hargrave and star Randeep Hooda. This will be their second collaboration, following their 2020 Netflix success. The live-action picture features Sam Richardson, Jessica Biel, John Cena, and Teyonah Parris, and it is based on Mattel's die-cast matchbox toy car line. In Budapest, where Hooda has just joined the cast, filming has begun.

David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper wrote the screenplay, and now Hargrave is directing it. Don Granger and Robbie Brenner of Mattel Films, along with Skydance's David Ellison and Dana Goldberg, are producing the film. In Matchbox we'll follow a group of childhood friends as they reunite to thwart a global catastrophe and rediscover the bond that has always bound them.

Jack Odell, a car enthusiast, created Mattel's famous toy car line in 1953, on which the movie is based. The idea for the business came from Odell's daughter's school rule that allowed only toys small enough to fit in a matchbox. When Odell's classmates started asking for their very own "matchbox car," the rule was relaxed. Mattel reports that they are currently selling two Matchbox vehicles globally.

Randeep Hooda on collaborating with Sam Hargrave again

Hooda said in a statement that he is looking forward to collaborating with Hargrave once more. Their first collaboration with Extraction was a blast. When it comes to thrilling tales and action, the filmmaker is unmatched, and the actor is pleased to be a part of the Budapest squad.

Recently, Hargrave oversaw the production of Extraction 2. His action resume includes coordinating stunts for Marvel's Avengers: Endgame Infinity War, Thor: Ragnarok, and DC's Suicide Squad. Hooda's breakout performance as Saju, co-starring with Chris Hemsworth, came in his directorial debut film.

Hooda, who was behind the camera and in the lead role in 2024's Swatantrya Veer Savarkar is still busy in the Indian film industry, shooting Jaat directed by Gopichand Malineni and starring Sunny Deol. Vishal Bhardwaj's Arjun Ustara also features the actor alongside Shahid Kapoor, Nana Patekar, and Triptii Dimri.
