Fans have always wanted to see Rana Daggubati and his uncle Venkatesh Daggubati on big screen, and Netflix India’s crime-drama show Rana Naidu has made that happen.
The series, according to the official synopsis, is “set in Bombay, where glitz meets grime, Rana Naidu does the dirty work for the city’s top power players; making the problems of the city's celebrities, superstar athletes, and business moguls disappear. This taut drama unfolds when his father Venky is unexpectedly released from prison, setting off a chain of events that shakes the Naidu family to its core.”
The action-packed thriller opens with a voiceover of a man praising Rana Daggubati’s “helping ways” as the man who does all the dirty work for the rich and famous: a celebrity fixer, they call it. Rana’s intense character, also called Rana, can be seen beating goons and shady individuals black and blue before his estranged father comes out of prison. The duo cannot see eye-to-eye and get in an altercation when Venkatesh’s character asks Rana to call him father. “Baap jaisa kaam karta, toh bolta (Had you acted like my father, I would have called you Dad),” says an enraged Rana Daggubati.
The tension between the leading men, coupled with power-packed action sequences and actors like Sushant Singh and Surveen Chawla in the same frame, Rana Naidu looks like the next big thing in the crime-family drama subgenre.
