Actress is making films through her boutique production house, AppleBox Studios, which will be distributed by KRG Studios
Kannada actress Ramya was at the top of her game a decade ago, when she decided to pursue a career in politics with the Congress party. She began with a brief stint as the Mandya Member of Parliament and then went on to be the national head of social media for the party. Although she still appears to be sympathetic to the party, she does not hold any major post and has maintained a low-key profile in the last couple of years that she has been back in Bengaluru.
Two days ago, Ramya posted on social media that it’s time to take the plunge and that she’d have some ‘sihi suddhi’ on August 31 at 11.15 am. Netizens, of course, went into overdrive, speculating whether the announcement was going to be about an impending comeback to cinema, considering how actively she has been posting about films, meeting people in the industry, etc. or whether she was finally ready to ‘settle down’ and get married. There were others who also wondered if she was looking at jumping ship and joining another political party.
Well, she has now confirmed that her big news is a return to cinema after all. This time, though, Ramya will also be behind the camera, serving as producer. Ramya has launched a boutique production house called AppleBox Studios that will make theatrical as well as OTT films and web series. The films will be distributed by Karthik Gowda and Yogi G Raj of KRG Studios.
“I am going to be doing films again,” she wrote in her note, adding, “This time, though, I will also be producing through my boutique production house, AppleBox Studios, which is currently on the threshold of producing two theatrical films that will be distributed by KRG Studios. I’m very excited about both these projects. AppleBox Studios will also be tip-toeing into the OTT domain with films and web series.”
