Ramayana Part 1 Updates

If there’s one magnum opus that the country is eagerly awaiting, it has to be Ramayana Part 1 starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash in the leading roles. This mythological drama, featuring the three as Lord Ram, Sita, and Ravana respectively, is one of the most anticipated projects, and its staggering $100 million budget only adds to the excitement.

For months, reports have circulated about the preparation, pre-production, and the actors getting into shape for their roles. We’ve even caught glimpses from the sets of the film, which is divided into two parts and was recently shot in Mumbai’s Film City. Now, there’s a new update: Ranbir Kapoor will be playing a double role, and Amitabh Bachchan has joined the cast.

Ranbir Kapoor to Play Double Role in Ramayana

Yes, you read that right. Ranbir Kapoor is in a phase of his career where he’s taking on double roles, having done so in Shamshera and in Animal his last release, which was a blockbuster. According to the latest reports, Ranbir is set to take on another double role, and this time, it’s in a mythological epic. As per a report from Peeping Moon, the actor will portray both Lord Ram and Parshuram. Here’s how the filmmakers are planning to make this work and why it makes sense.

The report explains that it’s logical for Ranbir Kapoor to play both Ram and Parshuram because they are both avatars of Lord Vishnu. Parshuram’s role in the movie may be brief, but it holds significant importance in the story. Additionally, Ranbir will sport a completely distinct and unrecognizable look as Parshuram.

“In the Ramayana Parshuram had a conflict with Ram after Shiva’s bow, Pinaka, was broken. He challenges Ram to bend Vishnu’s bow, and upon witnessing Ram succeed, he acknowledges him as an incarnation of Vishnu and retreats to his penance. Although Parshuram's role in the epic is brief, it holds significant importance, and the filmmakers have ensured it reflects that. Ranbir will have a completely distinct and unrecognizable look as Parshuram,” a source told the portal.

Amitabh Bachchan Joins Ramayana Part 1

In another massive update, the portal revealed that Amitabh Bachchan has joined the star-studded cast of Nitesh Tiwari’s directorial, which is mounted on a massive budget. The legendary superstar will play a pivotal role as Jatayu in the film. However, Amitabh Bachchan will not appear physically in the movie but will lend his voice to Jatayu, the eagle who loses his wings while trying to save Sita from Ravana. This will be a special appearance.

Amitabh Bachchan has been roped in for the cameo, and the filmmakers have scanned his eyes for VFX purposes to bring more authenticity to Jatayu. Big B recently played Ashwathama in Kalki 2898 AD and will also be part of the second film in that franchise.

Ramayana also stars Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Ravi Dubey as Laxman, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Rakul Preet Singh as Shurpanakha, Arun Govil as Dashrath, Kunal Kapoor as Indra Dev, Harman Baweja as Vibhishan, Shishir Sharma as Guru Vasishtha, and Sonia Balani as Urmila, among others. The filmmakers are aiming for a 2026 release. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more updates on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
