Since time immemorial, Telugu filmmakers have always found it necessary to integrate a social message into a star vehicle, using films as a medium of infotainment. While some enjoy this style of cinema, some opine viewers don’t need to be stuffed with messages when they pay a ticket for two hours of escapism. Director Sriwass’ recent film Ramabanam too comes with a message.

Ramabanam is director Sriwass’ third collaboration with actor Gopichand after two hits - Lakshyam, Loukyam. After a four-month long wait and a change of OTT partner, the film is coming to Netflix on September 14. Dimple Hayathi played the female lead in the film which also starred Jagapathi Babu, Khushbu in key roles. The film was backed by TG Vishwa Prasad under People Media Factory.

The story is all about two brothers with contrasting ideologies. While one prefers to go by rules, trusts the system for justice, the younger one believes aggression and a fight is necessary for larger good. After parting ways early in their lives, they reunite and understand each other better. The film offers viewers a good mix of old-fashioned drama with romance, humour, catchy music and solid action.

Apart from the masala to please masses, there’s enough preaching in the film also about the need for healthy food sans chemicals in our lives and how corporates are misusing their responsibility to provide adulterated food products to consumers. Like most Telugu films, Ramabanam glorifies satvik food practices; a series of long, effective monologues in a courtroom emphasise the same.

The mainstream potboiler will please you if you don’t mind a staple Telugu action entertainer with little attempt to offer anything new. Keep your expectations low and you may not mind Ramabanam on Netflix later this Thursday. Gopichand is next teaming up with Kannada filmmaker A Harsha for Bhimaa and another actioner with Sreenu Vaitla.
