Ram Kamal Mukherjee on Noti Binodini: Media speculate names of Paoli, Rukmini, Rituparna, Parno playing Noti. But nothing is finalised yet

Author-turned-filmmaker Ram Kamal Mukherjee has confirmed that his biopic on Binodini Dasi, who became Noti Binodini, is ready on the floors. However, he also said that the cast has not been finalised yet. Earlier, it was reported that the film will go on the floors in October. Speculations over the lead were in full swing. The director confirmed that the cast will be announced only after only after the dates with the actors are locked.

Ram Kamal said that while a number of names are doing the rounds, no one has been locked yet. “From Rukmini Maitra to Paoli, Rituparna Sengupta, Parno Mittra and several others – I read four to five names on media reports for the character Noti Binodini. Nothing has been finalised yet. Big films take time. And I believe in the official announcement. The cast will be announced only after we block the actors’ dates,” he said.

Ram Kamal also added that Noti Binodini is not going to be any ordinary film. “If I want to create a period piece, I would like to make it a grand one. I don’t want anything shoddy. The major issue in the Bengali industry is that I don’t get the budget. A period drama needs a budget to recreate the set, makeup, costume lights and so on,” the director said.

Meanwhile, Ram Kamal is busy with 1770 right now. To commemorate 150 years of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Vande Mataram, the director has conceptualised the film based on the author’s Anandamath. Ashwin Gangaraju will direct the film while Baahubali and RRR-fame V Vijayendra Prasad will pen the script. Ram Kamal is the creator of the film.

Does that mean Noti Bonodini will take a backseat now and your focus will be on 1770? “Not at all,” said the director. “1770 will take time as it has just started. Binodini is ready to go on the floors,” he said.
