RGV’s D Company will release on his OTT platform called Spark on May 15,
Ram Gopal Varma’s OTT platform called Spark OTT, which was launched earlier this month, is focusing on expanding its catalogue. The director’s latest film D Company is scheduled to stream on the platform from May 15 on a pay-per-view basis.
The announcement of the launch of Spark was made on the controversial filmmaker’s 57th birthday. With Telugu journalist Swapna overseeing the operations of the platform, Spark is expected to provide new and talented filmmakers a chance to showcase their films.
A retelling of the life of gangster Dawood, this action-crime film stars Ashwat Kanth Sharma. The plot of the film follows the gangster’s descent into the underworld of Mumbai.
The release of the film was stalled earlier this year, which the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) had urged the filmmaker to pay his dues to the South Indian film industry. Varma was expected to pay the remaining Rs 12 crore that he had to give to exhibitors, distributor and the production union for the movie Officer.
Further delays were caused in the release of D Company due to rising COVID-19 cases. “Due to the sudden severe covid rise in many parts of the country and also amid continuous news of new lockdowns, we at Spark have decided to postpone the release of D Company. A new date will be announced ASAP,” he tweeted.
Spark currently has seven original shows and movies that are already streaming on the platform.
