Raktabeej: Devlina Kumar embraces a de-glam character in style

Though she has been acting for many years, this is her first puja release.

From television to the big screen – Devlina Kumar has a strong acting career. Now she is all set with her film, Raktabeej. Directed by Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy, the film will feature the actress as a key character. Though she has been acting for many years, this is her first puja release.

Devlina will play Jamini in the film. She is a woman who took shelter in the President’s house. Her character has some mysteries and layers. The trailer shows her to be an ordinary person with no makeup. In an interview with Anandabazar Online, she said, “'This is a de-glam character. There was no makeup. I once wanted to have some sunscreen while shooting but they removed it. Shibuda did not even let me put on vaseline.”

People think that an actress is equivalent with glamour. Devlina was no exception. But she said that her thoughts changed recently. She now accepts her natural appearance and skin defects. She does not do much makeup offscreen. She also likes to see her without makeup on screen as she thinks people will identify with her.

Devlina also learned to ignore trolls. She is often trolled on social media for her figure and lifestyle. She is teased for her travels and hears questions like where she gets the money from. But she does not pay attention. She does not use social media from a loss or gain point of view, rather posts whatever she pleases. Devlina said, “When I did my last serial, I said beforehand that I would have some dance performances abroad. But on television, dates are mingled. It happened here also. But I love dancing more than acting and hence could not throw away those prior commitments. The serial's producer is one of my close ones. Hence I left the project after talking to her. I went to London for the dance performances and posted some photos from there. It was rumored that Devlina left the project to travel to London. It feels bad if people misunderstand you. But I can't do extra to clear the misconception. I could do that by promoting my dance performances, but what would I gain? I am very much family-oriented. If my family is happy, so am I. Hence other things do not affect me much.”

What type of character does she love to do? Devlina said, “I never did much work. But people loved whatever I did. I want to do a fully commercial picture because I dance well. You will see from my videos that I am good at lip-syncing too. I did several glamorous photoshoots. Hence I will suit well as a commercial heroine.”
