The upcoming movie, produced by the makers of KGF duology, will be scripted and directed by Rakshit,
The pandemic has not deterred Kannada cinema, which was only beginning to open its wings in the past couple of years primarily owing to the success of KGF. The latest movie among the slew of big-budget announcements from Sandalwood is Rakshit Shetty’s Richard: Lord of the Sea.
The film, which is reportedly a spin-off of Rakshit’s 2014 debut directorial Ulidavaru Kandanthe, will have his character Richard Antony aka Richie making a comeback. The makers announced the movie with a trademark Rakshit style teaser that had a crow perched atop Richard Antony’s gravestone while the narrator talks about tales of the ‘Lord of the Sea’.
The makers also revealed that the film will be a crime thriller. “What happens when the sea returns with the hottest blood? A dystopian future or a pitted past. This time Richard Anthony is here to uncover the dark,” they wrote on the caption of the video.
In a press note by the producers, Rakshit said that Richard Antony: Lord of the Sea is a “second coming of Ulidavaru Kandante” and yet starkly different. The actor-director said that when he made the crime drama in 2014 he didn’t think of a sequel or a prequel to the movie. “(The Universe) only unravelled a part of the story which was required then and waited for me to explore the rest when the time was right,” he wrote, adding that he is currently ready to script the next chapter in Richie’s life. Ulidavaru Kandante was also remade in Tamil as Richie with Nivin Pauly in the lead.
