Rakshit is all praise for Natesh Hegde’s next, Vaghachipani, the first cut of which he has seen
Considered the Shetty triumvirate of Kannada cinema, Rakshit, Rishab and Raj B Shetty not only act, direct and produce their own films, but they also lend the support of their banners, either wholly as producers or as presenters to give upcoming talent a bigger platform to showcase their movies than they would have otherwise. Rakshit’s Paramvah Studios is at the forefront of this and has multiple projects in various stages of development going on, which will give the Kannada industry a whole new line-up of promising filmmakers.
Rishab, says Rakshit, also has bunch of filmmakers in his circle, most notable among them being young Natesh Hegde, whose Pedro has been a film festival darling since 2021. Rakshit has seen the first-cut of Natesh’s next, called Vaghachipani (Tiger’s pond), which also stars his father Gopal Hegde in the lead. “Natesh is a phenomenal filmmaker, but the problem with that kind of cinema is that you don’t know if it has the potential for a theatrical outing. It is, obviously, not a commercial project and yet, it is not full-fledged arthouse either. My reading of this situation is that there are amazing filmmakers out there, who know how to tell stories. All they have to do is figure out where they fit in in the larger spectrum of cinema and how to present stories in commercially viable formats.” Rakshit told Metrosaga in a recent interview, adding that in the next 2-3 years, at least 5-6 very promising filmmakers will come into the industry and do amazing films.
Speaking to OTTplay earlier, Natesh had explained that Vaghachipani is based on the published works of Amaresh Nugadoni and is named after a village called Vaghachipani in the Western Ghat region. The film has Malayalam actor-filmmaker Dileesh Pothan in a pivotal role, as well as Kannada actor-director Raj B Shetty, among others.
