Akshay Kumar is gearing up for the release of Raksha Bandhan, a film that promises to pay tribute to the bond between brothers and sisters. When commencing work on the film, Akshay had spoken of the strong bond he shared with his sister Alka, dedicating the film to her. Alka recently shared a heartfelt tribute for her brother, speaking about the important role Akshay played in her life.

During his appearance on Superstar Singer 2, Akshay was shown a video, which showed some delightful photographs of him and Alka together. The video also featured a voice over by Alka where she spoke of how Akshay had been a friend, brother and father to her and how he had stood by her through the good and bad times. She also thanked him for the things he had done for her. Akshay also spoke of how his family’s luck had changed after Alka came into their lives. “Jo behen ka rishta hota hain, usse bada koi nahin hain”, said the actor.

In his social media post dedicating Raksha Bandhan to Alka, Akshay had written “Growing up my sister, Alka was my first friend. It was the most effortless friendship. @aanandlrai's #RakshaBandhan is a dedication to her and a celebration of that special bond”.

Raksha Bandhan reunites Akshay with his Atrangi Re director Aanand L. Rai. The upcoming film will see Akshay essay the role of a brother, who tries to provide the best for his four younger sisters.

Akshay will share the screen with Bhumi Pednekar, Sahejmeen Kaur, Deepika Khanna, Sahil Mehta, Sadia Khateeb and Smrithi Srikanth in the movie. The film, written by Himanshu Sharma and Kanika Dhillon, is slated to hit the big screen on August 11. After its theatrical run, the film will be available to stream on ZEE5.
