The noted comedian passed away on September 21.
The entire film and television industry was plunged into a state of mourning after popular comedian Raju Srivastav passed away on September 21 at the age of 58. The comedian had been hospitalised due to a cardiac arrest last month, and his hospitalisation had witnessed an outpouring of love and prayers from fans and well wishers. Among them was Amitabh Bachchan, who had lent the comedian’s family support during their trying times. Recently, Raju’s daughter Antara penned a heartfelt note of gratitude to Amitabh.
Taking to social media, Antara shared a post on her late father’s Twitter and Instagram accounts. She shared photographs of her father and Amitabh together, as well as a picture of the latter’s statement on Raju’s death. In the caption of the post, Antara wrote about how grateful their family was for Amitabh being there for them every day during the tumultuous time Raju was in the hospital. She spoke of how his prayers had given the family strength and talked about the extreme love and respect Raju had for Amitabh. Revealing that Amitabh’s name was saved as Guru ji in Raju’s phone, Antara spoke about how Raju had reacted when he listened to a voice clip Amitabh had sent. “You are my father’s idol, inspiration, love and Guru”, she wrote.

Raju had been admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after suffering cardiac arrest on August 10. When the comedian was under treatment, Amitabh had reportedly sent a video message asking Raju to ‘Rise up’.
Although the late comedian had been a part of the film and television industry since the 1980s, his breakthrough came with his participation on the reality comedy series the Great Indian Laughter Challenge, in 2005. Raju is survived by his wife and their two children.
