The filmmaker gets candid about the thought process behind the film that releases on January 26
National Award-winning filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi is all set for a comeback after nine years on the big screen as a director with the film Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh. The film focuses on the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi by Nathuram Godse and the filmmaker explained why it was important for him to make the film.
During an interaction with the media, he said, "The idea behind making the film is to know more about Nathuram Godse. It is important for the people to know who he was as a man. It was with the same idea that I made a film on Shaheed Bhagat Singh."
When he was asked what if the youth get a wrong message from the film, since Godse killed Gandhi due to ideological differences, the filmmaker said, "Well, the audience will get to see what happened to Nathuram Godse after comitting the violent act. Having said that, I do not think our youth is immature enough to indulge in some act of violence after watching the film. Rather, they will analyse, because that is the idea of the film. When people watched The Legend of Bhagat Singh, they did not attempt to bomb the parliament. It never happens that way - when people watch a film, they watch characters. I do not think people will follow Godse and act the way that he did. Of course, they may agree or disagree with his thought process."
Santoshi is known for making films like Ghayal, Damini, Andaz Apna Apna, Ghatak and China Gate, among others. He has also received two National Film Awards.
Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh - starring Deepak Antani, Chinmay Mandlekar, Pawan Chopra, Anuj Saini, Sharad Singh and Arif Zakaria - releases in theatres on January 26.
