When will Superstar Rajinikanth's Lal Salaam start streaming? This seems to be the question among fans of Tamil cinema. The filmmakers are keeping the streaming details of the film under wraps, leaving fans wondering about it.
As per the current industry trends, all new Tamil movies arrive on the streaming platforms after an exclusive four-week theatrical run. Ranging from blockbusters like Leo to medium-budget films like Singapore Saloon, most of them have followed the trend and had their digital premieres in about five weeks. Needless to say, this trend has caused a lot of friction between the producers and other stakeholders in the box office business. However, this practice continues unabated despite exhibitors and distributors repeatedly raising protest banners against it.

It remains to be seen whether Lal Salaam will go against the trend by staying longer in cinemas or will stick to the prevailing practice. Considering that the film's box office performance has been uninspiring, it's very unlikely the producers will delay its digital release.
Some unconfirmed sources claim that Lal Salaam will arrive on Netflix on March 8. However, an official confirmation on the same is awaited.
According to reports, Lal Salaam has grossed less than Rs 20 crore from its ticket sales in Tamil Nadu. The film opened to a lukewarm response from the audiences , and the mixed reviews from critics added more challenge to the film's box office performance.
While the film was appreciated for its good intentions, it failed to create a compelling viewing experience. And an early OTT release might help it find a wider audience.
Lal Salaam is said to be inspired by real-life incidents that happened in Tamil Nadu. Filmmaker Aishwarya Rajinikanth collaborated with journalist Vishnu Rangasamy in fleshing out the screenplay about the far-reaching consequences of communal politics.
