Jailer, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, is Rajinikanth’s 169th film. Reports indicate that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan could be the female lead.
We had told you the pre-production work of Jailer was going on in full swing, and the latest buzz is that the film will go on floors on August 3, 2022, following a traditional puja. Unconfirmed reports add that the makers are erecting a set for the project in Ramoji Film City is where the shoot is most likely to commence.
Hearsay is that Jailer, like Annaatthe, would be shot in Hyderabad; however, we await an official word. Touted to be an action thriller, Rajinikanth is expected to play the titular role, and we hear Jailer will have a stunning star cast, involving the likes of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Shivrajkumar, Ramya Krishnan, Priyanka Mohan and others.
A little birdie earlier told OTTplay, "Jailer will be a typical Nelson Dilipkumar picture that’s heavy on material with abundant wacky features in the writing." Produced by Sun Pictures, composer Anirudh Ravichander is on board, while more details on the rest of the cast and crew will be revealed soon. The title look of Jailer got released recently. The poster featured a blood-stained butcher knife hanging on the backdrop of an old factory.
The Superstar’s last film was Annaatthe, directed by Siva, which was released to mixed reviews for Diwali in 2021. Meanwhile, Nelson's last directorial, Beast, starring Vijay, received mixed reviews. Vijay Karthik Kannan will be taking care of the cinematography and Nirmal is the editor of Jailer.
Considering all eyes are on Jailer, which is set to release next year, will the Rajinikanth-starrer beat Kamal Haasan's Vikram? The Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial has been on a record-breaking spree ever since it hit the theatres. The film is currently approaching the Rs 450 crore mark. Vikram's global earnings have surpassed Rs 432 crores, according to Kollywood tracker Ramesh Bala. He further stated that the film's overall profits in its native market (Tamil Nadu) were Rs 182 crore.
Vikram is the biggest commercial success in Kamal Haasan's six-decade career. Apoorva Sagodharargal, starring Kamal Haasan, was the highest-grossing film in Tamil Nadu in 1989. Six years later, Rajinikanth's Baashha arrived to take its place. Kamal Haasan reclaimed the top place 33 years later. This record has been broken by Rajinikanth, Thalapathy Vijay, and Ajith's films over the years.
