Rajinikanth wishes Thalapathy Vijay.

Superstar Rajinikanth has extended his best wishes to Thalapathy Vijay for venturing into Tamil Nadu politics . When asked for his quick thoughts on the latest development, Rajinikanth stated, "My best wishes." However, he refrained from further elaborating on his thoughts regarding the potential impact of Vijay's entry on politics and cinema.

Tamil cinema's tryst with politics

In Tamil Nadu, the intertwining of politics and cinema has been a long-standing tradition. Famous actors have transitioned to become successful chief ministers of the state, such as MG Ramachandran, J Jayalalitha, and M Karunanidhi. Even the current Chief Minister MK Stalin had a brief stint in movies before dedicating himself entirely to politics. Stalin's son and Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin also made a mark as an actor-producer in Tamil cinema before transitioning into full-time politics.

Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan ventured into politics a few years ago. However, despite his onscreen popularity, he has faced challenges in making significant inroads into electoral politics.

For over 20 years, Rajinikanth kept fans and political experts in suspense about his own political ambitions. Despite announcing plans to launch his political party and contest elections in Tamil Nadu a few years ago, he later abandoned these aspirations, citing health reasons during the pandemic.

Thalapathy Vijay's dynamic political entry

On the other hand, Thalapathy Vijay surprised everyone last week by revealing his political plans. Vijay's political outfit is named Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam, and he intends to contest the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu in 2026. Vijay clarified that he won't be participating in the upcoming Parliament elections, scheduled in the next few months.

Vijay mentioned that after fulfilling his existing movie commitments, he will dedicate himself full-time to advancing his political career. It is widely believed that after Thalapathy 69, Vijay will retire from movies entirely.

Vijay is now busy shooting for his upcoming movie The Greatest Of All Time. It's Vijay's 68th film and the production of the movie is going on in full swing. Written and directed by Venkat Prabhu, the film is expected to release in cinemas later this year.
