Sun Pictures, the Tamil production house, recently dropped a special video and confirmed the reunion with superstar Rajinikanth, thus sparking rumours about the Jailer 2 announcement.
Rajinikanth is totally busy in his acting career, with some exciting projects in his kitty. The superstar is teaming up with director Lokesh Kanagaraj and Sun Pictures for his next outing, titled Coolie. Interestingly, the legend is reuniting with the famous production banner for his next immediate project, as well. Sun Pictures confirmed its reunion with Rajinikanth, by dropping a special video on social media today (January 11, 2025). The new update has sparked rumours on the Jailer 2 announcement.
The popular production banner of the Tamil film industry took to its official social media handles today (January 11, 2025), and dropped a special video, announcing its reunion with Rajinikanth. “Sun Pictures' next Super Saga... Gear up for the explosive announcement... Stay Tuned!,” reads the banner’s post. The new video, which includes the visuals from Sun Pictures’ all popular outings, confirms that it is indeed teaming up with Rajinikanth, by using the iconic ‘Super Star’ font towards its end.

Even though Sun Pictures has not revealed any details of its next collaboration with Rajinikanth, the grapevine suggests that the banner is indeed hinting at the Jailer 2 announcement. As reported earlier, director Nelson Dilipkumar and his team shot a special announcement video and the announcement poster of the Jailer sequel, featuring the legendary superstar, in December 2024. Even though the announcement was expected to be out on the leading man’s birthday, it was later pushed due to creative reasons.

As per the latest updates, Nelson Dilipkumar and the team are planning to kickstart the filming of Jailer 2, soon after Rajinikanth wraps up the filming of his next outing, Coolie. The superstar will reprise his much-loved character Muthuvel Panidan IPS from Jailer (currently available for streaming on Sun NXT and OTT Play Premium), in the film, while Yogi Babu, Ramya Krishnan, and others might return to play their respective roles from the original. Anirudh Ravichander will compose the songs and the original score for the film, which is expected to get a 2026 release.
