Tota Roy Chowdhury and Raja Chanda are at loggerheads over a social media post by the actor. It has been reported that the actor will be back in a Bengali action-commercial film directed by Raja. On Friday, Tota posted a clipping of the upcoming film on social media. His fans immediately showered love on his new action avatar in the film Police. However, that clip landed him in controversy.
The film's director Raja Chanda was not pleased with the matter. He claimed that Tota released the clipping without consulting him or the producer. Raja released a video on social media on Friday and slammed Tota for not getting the approval. In an interview with Anandabazar Online, Raja said, “Tota released the video without informing us. There are certain tactics behind a film's promotion. But the clippings he shared revealed the entire theme of the film.” The film's working title was Shopoth 2. But Tota said on Friday that the name was changed to Police.
Tollywood films' preview copies are made for promotional or business purposes. This clipping was also made for that reason. Raja claimed that the clipping was given to Tota by the production house at his request. The clipping did not bore the makers’ names in it.
Raja said, “He took the video from us to show to Karan Johar in Mumbai. We gave it to him for the film’s promotion and the greater good of the Bengali film industry, but not for posting.” Raja also said that making the video cost one lakh for the production house.
Previously, Tota shared the clipping of a dance scene from the film on social media. Why didn't Raja protest at that time? Raja said, “It was a 10-second clipping. The term 'Preview' was written there. Though we were surprised, we did not object. But we can't accept what he did this time.” Raja added, “Actually, he thinks of Karan Johar as a director and of us as clerks.”
Interestingly, Karan Johar shared the video on his Instagram story. Tota worked in the film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kaahani, directed by Karan Johar, last year. They have had a good relationship since then.
