Rahul Bhat Talks About Kennedy Not Getting A Release - Exclusive

In the world of unreleased Indian films, Anurag Kashyap has another notable project awaiting its release—Kennedy starring Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone. Initially one of the most anticipated films, it traveled through film festivals and was even screened at MAMI in India. However, that was the last time it was shown in the country. Fans of Kashyap and cinephiles have been eagerly awaiting its release for nearly two years, with no updates in sight. In an exclusive conversation with OTTplay, Rahul Bhat shares his thoughts on the situation, calling Kashyap a "genius."

Rahul Bhat on Getting Work

For the unversed, Kennedy features Rahul Bhat as a former cop who goes rogue in Mumbai. This marks his second collaboration with Kashyap. Speaking exclusively to OTTplay Bhat revealed that he has no complaints about the industry and is content with the opportunities he has received. While addressing the lack of a release date for Kennedy, he also shared insights into his selective approach to choosing roles.

“I don’t take on too much work. I get offers every day, but I don’t want to do everything. I prefer working with select directors and only take on projects that truly interest me. I give my 100% to whatever I do. For me, roles aren’t big or small—actors are. I want to work with directors who match or exceed my passion for storytelling. So, I have no complaints about the industry; I feel I’m peaking at the right time,” Bhat said.

Rahul Bhat on Kennedy

Discussing Kennedy Bhat stated that he remains unbothered by its delayed release, as long as he gets to work with brilliant filmmakers.“I believe everything happens for the best. Kennedy hasn’t been released yet, but I have gained so much from the experience of working with a genius like Anurag Kashyap. I always say—let me work with these visionary directors a thousand times, and I won’t care whether the films are released or not,” he expressed.

He further added, “I have grown tremendously as an actor because of Kennedy. Working with directors like Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane has only refined my craft. I didn’t spend my life studying books or watching classic films—I learned everything on set. When I started, I was a terrible actor. Thank God I didn’t do 50 mediocre films. What’s the point? You pass away and leave behind 50 bad films. Instead, I’d rather have 5–10 great ones. I’m grateful for the opportunities to work with amazing directors who have helped me learn and grow.”
