Rahi Anil Barve hints he will not return for Sohum Shah's Tumbbad 2; did he also reveal the titles of the trilogy?

Rahi Anil Barve revealed the original plan for Tumbbad trilogy, and hinted at what Tumbbad 2 might be named

Not too long ago, Sohum Shah confirmed that work on his Tumbbad sequel is on. The movie, which re-released in theatres, is now a hit at the Box Office and is heading towards becoming a superhit. While the original film was directed by Rahi Anil Barve, he will most likely not be returning for the sequel. In turn, Rahi hinted at who the director for the sequel is. All of this happens at a time when there's rumours of a rift between Rahi and Sohum. Here's everything we know so far...

Rahi Anil Barve confirms he's not returning for Tumbbad 2?

While sharing a post on the Tumbbad trilogy, Rahi seems to have confirmed that he will not be returning for the sequel. "I wish Sohum and Aadesh all the best for Tumbbad II; I have no doubt that it will be an outstanding success," he penned. This is a big hint that he will not be directing the sequel.

Who might direct Tumbbad 2?

Aadesh Prasad, who has been associated with Sohum Shah Films for a long time (Ship of Theseus and Tumbbad among many) as an AD and one of the producers, could be directing Tumbbad 2, according to Rahi's post.

Aadesh left a comment on the post, cheering on for Tumbbad director. He shared excitement on seeing Rahi's dreams come true and called them well-deserved.

In his post, Rahi also mentioned working on Tumbbad trilogy for over a decade. He spoke about various producers coming onboard for the project. For Tumbbad, he called it 'greed of patriarchy' and the story of father, son, and the holy ghost as his personal touch.

Tumbbad 2 and 3 titles revealed?

He seems to have revealed the titles for Tumbbad 2 and Tumbbad 3, too. Tumbbad 2 might be called Pahadpangira and is the story about the dawn of feminism and sati. Tumbbad 3's title could be Pakshitirtha. He did not reveal the story behind it. Or Sohum could be working on a different story altogether for Tumbbad 2. There's no clarity on that as of now.

Although not associated as a director, Rahi is likely to be associated with Tumbbad 2 as a producer (if it is Pahadpangira, in fact). Before that, though, he is working on Gulkanda Tales and Raktabramhand.

Sohum Shah had announced Tumbbad 2 without revealing any details. The confirmation came with the film releasing in theatres, post which Sohum shared a clip to assure fans that Tumbbad is extending into a franchise. He had spoken about the same even previously but did not wish to rush into turning the movie into a framchise. Eventually, after the re-release, he indeed hinted at Tumbbad universe.

Sohum Shah and Rahi Anil Barve not on talking terms?

There are various rumours that Sohum Shah and Rahi Anil Barve had a fallout during the making of Tumbbad. They had major creative differences, and Sohum brought major changes to the original film, which might not have gone down well with Rahi. Although both Rahi and Sohum's names are associated as director and actor-producer respectively, there's still no certainty on whose brainchild Tumbbad really was, the one we saw on the big screen.

Despite the rift, the reason for Rahi not being involved with Tumbbad 2 could also be because he is already caught up with various commitments at this point. Thus, if he associates himself with the movie, it might be only to the point of being a producer.
