The actress plays the title character in the thriller, which will be in theatres shortly
Ragini Dwivedi’s next release is a Kannada-Malayalam bilingual directed by Balu Narayanan, a thriller in which she plays the title character. “Sheela was made as a bilingual because it involves a story and journey that takes place between two states – Karnataka and Kerala. The locations are as much a part of the story as the characters. Sheela was an intense film for me and is the product of a lot of hard work from the entire team. I am happy and grateful that the team thought that I would fit the bill to play this character,” said Ragini at the film’s press meet in Bengaluru on Friday.
Speaking to OTTplay earlier, Ragini had told us, “Sheela is my return to Malayalam cinema after Face 2 Face. I play the title role, which is an interesting interstate character, who speaks both Kannada and Malayalam, and then has to face some very difficult situations after the death of her husband, which is what brings her to Kerala in the first place. It’s a suspense-revenge thriller. The first half is nice, with some glamour too, but the second half is raw and gory,” adding, “Sheela is a single mom, and the film does not have a romantic angle or songs. The narrative follows her journey to Kerala, when she finds out about some ancestral property owned by her late husband. How her attempts to sell it are sabotaged and the trials and tribulations she faces along the way forms the rest of the story.”
The cast also includes Riyaz Khan, who plays a police officer, as well as Sunil Sukhada, Vincent Alappat, Pradosh Mohan, Muhammad Irfan, etc. The film will release in Kannada first and then in Malayalam, says Ragini, adding that the team is looking at bringing out the trailer at the earliest.
