The film, directed by Santhosh Ananddram, is about a 40-year-old unmarried cook at a local eatery
Kannada filmmaker Santhosh Ananddram, known for hits like Raajakumara and Yuvarathnaa, was set to make another film with Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar, but since the latter was tied up with other commitments, the director decided to squeeze in a quick project in between. For this, he collaborated with Navarasa Nayaka Jaagesh and did a movie that was right up the actor’s alley – a comedy with a pertinent message for society.
The film, Raghavendra Stores, pairs Jaggesh with Shwetha Srivatsav, the first look of which was released on the eve of KGF: Chapter 2’s theatrical outing. At the time, it was revealed that Raghavendra Stores would be in theatres on August 5, but then, closer to the date, there was no promotions and it was then pushed ahead with no alternate date in sight. For a while, it was speculated that Hombale Films, the banner that backed it, would perhaps push the film as a direct-to-OTT outing, since there was absolutely no word on when Raghavendra Stores would be in theatres. Multiple queries by netizens to the banner and the director remained unanswered for the longest time. Then, out of the blue, it was announced that Raghavendra Stores would be given a theatrical release after all. The film will be in movie halls on April 28, days ahead of the elections in Karnataka.
Raghavendra Stores has Jaggesh as a cook at a local darshini, a 40-year-old eligible bachelor, struggling to find a soulmate. The film explores late marriages and the fact that cooking as a profession is still not regarded in high esteem with humour. The makers have said that the film will have Jaggesh’s trademark comedy and a message too.
This is Jaggesh’s first collaboration with Hombale Films and director Santhosh. The film will clash with Vijay Raghavendra’s Raaghu, as well as Akhil Akkineni’s Agent at the box office this week.
